Women Designer’s of the Arts and Crafts Movement by
Sally Hoban
The late 19th c. English Arts and Crafts Movement heavily influenced the development of avant-garde European design and the beginning of Modernism. Alongside the well known male designers such as William
Morris, Charles Voysey and Edward Burne-Jones were the lesser known women designers who also played an influential role, such as Jane and May Morris, Evelyn de Morgan, Georgina Gaskin and Florence Camm. Their work in enamel, jewellery, textiles, painting and stained glass will be discussed as well as that of regional designers across the UK.
